There was pandemonium in the early hours of Saturday as no fewer than four Automated Teller Machines owned by one of Nigeria financial institutions, Fidelity Bank burst in flames and exploded destroying the machines and injuring customers.
At around 9:00am, the ATM gallery which was located at the front of University of Calabar, UNICAL, gate exploded after been loaded with cash by staffs of the bank. It was gathered that some customers, mostly students who were trying to make transactions with the ATM were injured. The incident was said to have caused panic in the area.
Those around the area alleged that it the fire outbreak might have been caused by electrical fault from the machines. The help of fire fighters and police was said to have calmed the situation putting off the fire and taking the injured to the nearest hospital.
